Menu Board!

Hi all,

Here’s the photos of the food as promised. As a disclaimer i know the chicken looks like….. umm. well it could look better. it tastes better than it looks!!! we will need to retake these photos, but for now this is what we have. the photoshopping of the words were all done by the amazing jerald foo. else i would have done the usual photo editing on paint and powerpoint. we also tried to make it look fast food-ish (does it?) to bring across our concept of fast food 2.0- the same affordable prices, speed and consistent quality with the added benefit of health. um, we’re working on it!

To those visiting this space for the first time because you saw our ad/flyer jerald and I were giving out at raffles city, hello! :) thank you for coming! we hope you liked your samples :) please note that corporate deliveries are available for orders above 5 salads. it’s free and my brother, jerald and i will personally deliver to your office! its applicable for salads, but not soups because we don’t want the soups to get cold when we walk over :) the reason we are reaching out to you all now is because SMU has closed for the holidays and we are finally focusing on our outlet at the SMU administrative building (we have closed our outlet at the school of economics) and we would love for you to try us out! we promise you wont be disappointed! Whole New World

Hi my loves,

Finally have time to sit down and update this space. Things have been v v crazy for the past three months of getting Sal Happy up and running on a larger scale. I know it’s been said that starting an F&B business is not easy, but not easy is quite an understatement. its been stress stress stress and more stress. but, sal happy is managing, and we are trying, so do bear with us as we try to do better :) thank you again everyone for all the love and support. It really helps at the end of a long day to come home to nice texts and notes from people who appreciate and care :) esp when my friends do this despite my MIAing and neglecting everybody!!! I think i have turned down ze and jy’s dinner invites at least 10 times in the last 2 months already. i have also not seen my bestfriend in a month and a half, and my whatsapp has been collecting instant messages with non replies. this sometimes feels like death, but your encouragement and understanding helps me get through it guys. and my family of course, my brother (my new partner) has been so amazingly understanding despite my stressed out angsty moments. (never knew i could be such a terror). so, thank you i love you all!!!!

Anyhow, as for updates, come next wednesday, we will be closing our express outlet (the one at School of econs) and focusing our energy on our admin building store to churn out new recipes for both outlets :) we are currently experimenting with sushis, soups, and vegetarian options! So do look out for that! We’re v excited about the new menu :)) our menu boards are also slowly coming up thanks to my wonderful boyfriend Jerald foo who spent hours shooting photos of our food and rearranging each rice grain and piece of chicken, and then photoshopping the words and pricing in (thanks darl). We are also looking to start our corporate deliveries for corporate meetings, for order above 5 salads.

Will keep this place posted when I can with more details! In the meantime, look out for our next post with our new menu soon :)

Hiatus

Hi guys,

Let’s Go Places

I can finally announce where Sal Happy will be opening!!! Leasing business unit just got back to me yesterday with a confirmation that I will be at SMU Admin buildings cafe, an SOE’s Simply toast unit!

Look out for us!! Sal Happy Bistro concept at admin, with a full menu of salads, soups, and fresh juice bubble teas… And Sal Happy Xpress for quick and convenient salads at SOE!

Calorie Post!

Hello!

Someone requested for a calorie count of the recipes, so here they are! I must make a disclaimer that they arent 100% accurate. I tried to be as accurate as possible, but for somethings like how much salt exactly i add, or the exact grams of chicken and rice that goes into each salad, might be slightly off! so you can plus/minus a little here and there :) it should be roughly there though.

Sal Happy is looking for cashiers! As our cashier, you will have flexible working hours to suit your schedules (work in between classes!) and be paid a base of $5.50 per hour, with incentives tied to the number of salads you sell a day. Hourly pay can go up to $8.00 per hour. You will be tasked to smile at all times, tend to the cashier for most other times, and clear tables sometimes. A school delivery/ Salad stock updates on our fb page!

I am doing my third school delivery since school has started! And its just for one salad haha. my three deliveries so far have all been single orders! not that i mind just delivering one salad, but the orders dont justify me bringing in my nice delivery friends who agreed to help me at the start! i keep texting them to tell them “oops sorry no school deliveries tomorrow”. get salads at pick and bite everyone! its free delivery and nearer if youre at SOA/SOL/SOB :) its also good if you want to guarantee a salad and avoid stock outs and for avoiding the queue during rush hour:)

I felt v awkward taking it on photobooth because my back is facing SOA/SOL and people crossing over must be wondering why i am such a vainpot. this picture will have to do! it is my one and only one i will take before i start looking too strange. v conscious i know.

Anyway, today we have 85 salads ready for you! I’ve been ending at 930am since production has increased and started coming in earlier at 545. its been a mad rush in the kitchen every morning. today i dropped a pumpkin on my favorite white shirt and it has honey stains on it now. after that i stopped by the supermarket to pick up some missing supplies, then to my packaging supplier to pick up the sauce cups, and finally here to do this delivery. after this im visiting a friends house for his hari raya celebrations, and then paper work, and then sourcing for furniture, and then training! finally off to bed at 930pm. i still cant believe i sleep at 930pm now.

Okay i’m going back to glassroom now to check on sales and update the sal happy fb page about stock outs. oh yes, please check the fb page (Sal Happy Salads- Food/Grocer) for live updates on remaining salads for the day! will try to come back to school to update it by 1230pm daily.

CRAZY TIMES

I foresee a very crazy period of my life coming up. I just got the notification that my lease is supposed to start in 3 WEEKS!!!!! I was under the impression all along that id be opening the stores in january next year. I wish i could share the details but its not confirmed until next week. Don’t want to say anything wrong. In short, things are v v v busy. Both in glassroom (sales have picked up so much!), delivery sales to offices, and all the meetings and arrangements that have to be done for my lease spaces.

Oh, besides that, yesterday I lost my dad’s car keys. he is going to be so mad. I got the car towed home. I’m not even normally allowed to use my dads car. but i had to send my brother to the airport so we took his car and then this is what i ended up with.

My dads coming back from mexico on saturday. not good. need to think of a story.

Ok! short post. heres a picture of our soba salad production this morning because I promised pictures!

New packaging at Glassroom!

We have new packaging at Glassroom! this is a photo from my phone, ill take a better shot soon and post it.

Now you can differentiate from the brown rice salads sold at Colours and Delight. Don’t mean to be bad about it, but i feel quite cheated that they have the exact same brown rice salads as sal happy. the same brown rice, same egg mayo and long beans, and chicken! i understand if you want to sell brown rice too, but the same packaging, same egg mayo and long beans and chicken? thats a pushing it a little. ive been suppressing the desire to blog about it and i wont say anything nasty. but i just hope that people will be able to differentiate the original sal happy from the rest! hopefully the new packaging will help.

A filled room

Popped by glassroom to refill the sauce containers and was pleasantly surprised to see Glassroom so packed! and the salads almost sold out by 12! looks like i can start increasing production further! v happy. maybe this is my version of job fulfillment? :)

Will try increasing to my previous capacity of 75 salads again! as for the stock-out system i mentioned i was planning, i figured there isnt any other way except physically being there and updating a live google document that everyone can check. i will start sitting at glassroom to update this from wednesday onwards! tomorrow i cant just yet, have a meeting with SPRING singapore to discuss a grant. Wednesday’s also the day Gina from the leasing business unit gets back to me about the final lease approvals!
